Celebrating 15 years of the Vheissu album release, post-hardcore rock
band Thrice performed the album in its entirety, including the b-sides.
The 2005 breakthrough album intertwines electronic elements, piano,
unique instrumental tunings with post-punk distortion, and has a wide
range of standout vocals. Despite vocalist, guitarist Dustin Kensrue
being under the weather--having to occasionally pause in between his
singing parts to clear his throat or cough--his vocals were delivered
without a hitch, matching the album's essential parts, including the
"Image Of The Invisible" anthemetic opening and crowd favorites
"Atlantic," "Music Box," "Red Sky," and "Lullaby." The music and the
band never faltered, giving a proper, well-deserved commemoration to
their fourth album. The dim lighting with thick fog and backing strobes
with ominous bursts of spotlight appropriately matched the Vheissu
mood. There wasn't much time to break during the back to back set of
songs, but Kensrue did express his gratitude toward the fans and
mentioned he was just getting over the flu and getting his voice back.
The band closed with recent hit "Black Honey" and returned for an
encore of 2011's "Words In The Water." Thrice continue their 15th
Anniversary of Vheissu Tour with openers mewithoutYou, Drug Church,
and Holy Fawn through the end of February.
