For more than 25 years Korn has consistently dominated the
live rock music circuit and last night's show was no exception--
from 2002's "Here To Stay" opening through 1998's "Freak On
A Leash" closing, with the appreciative "4U" as part of the encore,
the California nu-metal pioneers ruled the stage. Jonathan Davis'
diverse vocal range never faded with his innovative array of racing
rap rock alternating into slow temperamental metal growls; his ability
was highlighted during the breathy beat box breakdown of
"Got The Life" as well as during the sustained pitch of his
live bagpipes building into a syncopated "Shoots and Ladders"
sing along. The classics sounded just as fresh today as they did
yesterday, including a performance of the emotionally charged song
(from the band's 1994 self-titled debut) about Jon Davis being a victim
of bullying and being harassed in high school. (Korn's "Hater" and
"Thoughtless" are also themed around anti-bullying.) Each band
member has always possessed a signature style of their own in
appearance, wardrobe, and musical talent; a band which everybody
knows individual names and fans know each member's definitive role
in the band's distinct down-tuned sound. For some older fans in
attendance Korn conjured a sense of high school nostalgia, but younger
fans alike were also present. Through their inspiring longevity and
creativity, the band continues to reach and welcome new fans. Korn
performed newer songs from their latest album The Nothing, including:
"You'll Never Find Me" and"Can You Hear Me." "Somebody Someone"
from 1999's Issues showed audience unity as the full arena pumped
their fists in the air together singing the song's pounding verse,
repeating: "I need somebody, someone." Korn's current winter 2020
tour with Breaking Benjamin and Bones UK  concludes late February.
